International Cooperation on Alternative Test Methods (ICATM)

Introduction

  • The importance of the "3Rs" concept in tests and studies using animals and the need for international cooperation to develop alternative test methods were highlighted in the meeting of the ICCR (International Cooperation on Cosmetic Regulation) in 2007. As a result, a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) was concluded by and between ICCVAM (USA), JaCVAM (Japan), ECVAM (Europe) and Health Canada (Canada) in April 2009 (March 8, 2011).
  • Holding of regular meetings to discuss various issues related to the development of alternative test methods, such as international validation studies, professional assessment and international cooperation.
  • Participation in scientific advisory committees, workshops and symposiums held by centers for validation of alternative methods to share information

Scope of Activities

  • Planning and performance of studies on validation of alternative methods
  • Scientific validation and assessment of alternative methods
  • Recommendation of new alternative methods for safety assessment studies
